Shri Radha Mohan Singh launches Livestock Disease Forewarning Mobile Application (LDF-Mobile App)

Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister  of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare launched Livestock Disease Forewarning –Mobile Application (LDF-Mobile App) today  in presence of , Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat,  Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Singh expressed that by eradicating the dreaded Rinderpest disease India has proved its ability to face the challenges with successful outcome.  He stressed that similar efforts are needed to control and eradicate the diseases like FMD, PPR, Brucellosis, CSF, BT, HS etc., which cause huge economic loss annually to the livestock rearers and livestock industry as whole.

He also mentioned that ICAR-NIVEDI has identified 13 priority diseases based on their past incidence patterns and has built a strong database of these diseases and has been providing monthly livestock disease alerts to the state and central animal husbandry departments.  He said the complex statistical algorithm also considers both climatic and non-climatic factors and categorizes districts into Very High Risk, High Risk, Moderate Risk, Low Risk, Very Low Risk and No Risk for a particular disease, so that stake holders can effectively plan and utilize the available resources.

Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat appreciated efforts made by the scientists and encouraged the scientists to make it available in local languages for easy access and use by end users across the country.

The event was attended by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secreatry (DARE) and DG (ICAR), Shri Devendra Chaudhry, Secretary (ADF), Dr. J. K. Jena, Deputy Director (Animal Sciences), Dr. Suresh Honnappagol, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Dr. Parimal Roy, Director, ICAR-NIVEDI, Dr. Ashok Kumar, ADG (AH) and other officials from ICAR, Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying and Fisheries.

The mobile application developed by ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (ICAR-NIVEDI), Bengaluru can be downloaded and operated on all Android mobiles and occupies 2.5 MB space only. The forewarning is covered for 13 priority diseases across various livestock species (Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep, Goat and Pig). In addition to forewarning, the LDF-Mobile App also provides the details of clinical samples to be collected in event of specific disease outbreaks for laboratory confirmation.
