Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, laid foundation stone of the College of Horticulture, Thenzawl, Mizoram, under the Central Agricultural University, Imphal today. The event was organized at at College of Veterinary Sciences & AH, CAU, Selesih, Aizawl, and Mizoram.

In his address, Shri Singh said that North eastern hill region with its diverse agro-climatic plethora with excellent and long monsoons has tremendous potential for horticulture. He informed that it is decided to establish Indian Agricultural Research Institute in Assam for ushering second green revolution. Union Minister briefed about various schemes and programs like Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Horticulture Mission for North East & Himalayan States (HMNEH) and National Horticulture Board (NHB) which are already active in the region. For overall development of agriculture in state of Mizoram Central Government is funding schemes like RKVY (Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna), ATMA (Agriculture Technology Management Agency), NFSM (National Food Security Mission), he added.
He expressed confidence that the new Horticulture College would able to produce much needed human resource in horticulture and encourage the farmers to adopt modern agricultural technologies especially in organic farming to enhance their farm productivity and boost rural economy.
The Guest of Honours, Pu R.Lalzirliana, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Mizoram and Pu Lalthanliana, Minister of Horticulture, Government of Mizoram also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, welcomed the dignitaries.
Dr. D. Kathiresan, the Dean of the College of Veterinary Sciences & AH, CAU, Selesih, Aizawl, Mizoram proposed vote of thanks.
