Brainstorming session on “Insects Related to Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences” inaugurated

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary DARE and DG, ICAR inaugurated one day brain storming session on “Insects related to Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences” was inaugurated at the National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Insects, Bengaluru
Dr. S. Ayyappan while inaugurating the session stressed that the following points should be considered during deliberations of the meeting.

  • One veterinary institute preferably IVRI, Izatnagar to be a nodal institute to collaborate with NBAII in taxonomy and characterization of insects related to veterinary science. characterization of insects related to fisheries science.
  • One fisheries institute, preferably CMFRI, Cochin may act as nodal institute to collaborate with NBAII for taxonomy and
  • Identification of molecules for safe control of problematic pests and aquatic weeds related to animal sciences.
  • Identification guide of arthropods in relation to animals and fish.

Dr. Abraham Verghese, Director, NBAII welcom ed Dr. S. Ayyappan and other delegates. He highlighted the importance of identification and characterization of insects related to animal sciences as very limited work has been done in this area of research

Dr. C. Vasudevappa, Vice Chancellor, UAHS, Shimoga, Dr. S. Yathiraj, Dean, Veterinary College, Bangalore, Dr. C. A. Viraktamath, Chairman, RAC, NBAII, Dr. H. Rahman, Director, NIVEDI, Dr. R. Venkataramanan, Joint Director, IVRI and Dr. J. K. Jena, Director, NBFGR, Lucknow were present during the inauguration. Besides more than 40 scientists from veterinary and fisheries institutions / universities attended the meeting.
