ICAR signs MoU with ICFRE for strengthening Forestry Research and Education in the Country

Today marks the beginning of working together of two important Councils of the country involved in agricultural and forestry research. One being the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) that has been instrumental in enabling green revolution and food security and the other is the Indian Council for Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) that works to foster better management of forest resources for environmental security.

Dr. T. Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) and DG (ICAR) and Dr. S.C. Gairola, DG (ICFRE) signed the MoU to promote cooperation in complimentary research programs in the identified areas of mutual interests such as agroforestry, biotechnology, nanotechnology, tree-based fodder development, medicinal plants, policy research and forestry education. Further, both the Director Generals agreed to have collaborative programs for enabling meaningful extension activities in forestry sector. To this effect, a work plan (2018 to 2020) was also signed on the occasion. It was also agreed to institute working groups to implement the actionable points under the Work Plan.

Dr. S. Das, Special Secretary (FC) and DG (Forests), Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Dr. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Crop/Horticulture Sciences, ICAR), Dr. M.B. Chetti, ADG (Education), Dr. S.P. Kimothi, ADG (Coordination), Dr. A. Arunachalam, Dr. S.K. Malik, Dr. A.S. Misra and Dr. S. Panwar and other officers were present on the occasion.
