IASRI Organized Workshop on Internet Protocol

In his address, Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR emphasized to the National IPv6 Deployment Roadmap Version II released by DoT in March 2013. He lauded all the Nodal officers from ICAR institutes and CAUs for preparing the inventory of all the existing hardware, software and network devices. He called upon Nodal Officers to implement IPv6 in their institutes.

Shri Arvind R. Kaushal, Additional Secretary, DARE and Secretary, ICAR highlighted the importance of IPv6. He emphasized upon the need of deploying IPv6 for enhancing the productivity and efficiency in DARE/ICAR. Shri R.M. Agrawal, DDG (NT), DoT explained the IPv6 as the next generation Internet Protocol (IP) that will supplement and eventually replace IPv4, the protocol most Internet services use today. He told transition to IPv6 is an inevitable journey and it involves a collaborative effort on the parts of various stakeholders (Internet Service Providers, Content Providers, Service Providers, Vendors, Government and International Organization.

Dr. U.C. Sud, Director, IASRI briefed about the IPv6 transition plan in DARE/ICAR. He informed that about 85 institutes have appointed Nodal Officer to carry out the IPv6 activities in their institutes.

Workshop was organized in three technical sessions. Over 70 Nodal Officers and eight invited speakers participated in the workshop.

Dr. P.S. Pandey, National Coordinator, Component-I, NAIP; Dr. S.D. Wahi, Principal Scientist and I/c Head Statistical Genetics, IASRI; Dr. P.K. Malhotra, Principal Scientist and Professor (Computer Application) IASRI; and Dr. (Smt.) Seema Jaggi, Principal Scientist, IASRI were also present on the occasion.
