Foundation Laid for 23rd KVK of Jharkhand at Torpa, Khunti

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR laid the foundation for the KVK Khunti on 5th May, 2014. This will be 23rd KVK for Jharkhand state under the administrative control of Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG), Ranchi.

In his remark, Dr. Ayyappan assured that ICAR experts across the country would be deployed as per requirement to provide technical knowledge and application of science to upgrade agricultural practices for enhanced returns. He said that the KVK will provide complete guidance of agriculture to the farmers, from improved seeds to market.

On this occasion, Dr. Ayyappan felicitated the key officials of the district as well as the farmers who had given the land for the establishment of the KVK.

Shri Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Secretary, Agriculture and Sugarcane Development, Government of Jharkhand was the Guest of Honor. In his remarks, he advised rural youth to opt agriculture as a profession and suggested that new KVK should also take up lac cultivation for the benefit of farmers.

Dr. A.K. Sikka, Deputy Director General, NRM and Agricultural Extension, ICAR congratulated IINRG, Ranchi on the sanction of a new KVK under their jurisdiction and outlined some key areas of interventions like checking off-season migration, lac cultivation and marketing of produce.

Dr. M.P. Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, BAU, Ranchi stressed on the judicious utilization of natural resources and the KVK should lay emphasis on local needs.

Dr. A.K. Singh, ZPD, Zone-II, Kolkata assured required support of ICAR for maximizing the role of the KVK in the region.

Dr. R.P.S. Ratan, Director (Extension), BAU; Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna; Mr. Raymond Kerketta, DDC, Seraikella-Kharsawan, Dr. Prabhakar Singh, Director (Horticulture), Government of Jharkhand; Dr. A.K. Singh, Head, ICAR-RCER, Ranchi; and Mrs. MaylinaTopno, Chairperson, ZilaParishad were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, Dr. R. Ramani, Director, IINRG welcomed the dignitaries and outlined the role of new KVK for the agricultural development in the district.

The KVK is being established in an area of about 49 acres of land at Diyankel Village in Torpa block. More than 400 farmers participated in the function.

The function was coordinated by Dr. A.K. Jaiswal, Head, TOT Division.
